Veterinarian, Escondido, CA

    Veterinarian, Escondido, CA

EL NORTE VETERINARY CLINIC has been at the same El Norte Plaza location for more than 20 years!. Dr. Michael Sergent has owned and operated the clinic since March, 2000. We are a one-doctor small-animal veterinary clinic which treats dogs, cats and occasional rabbits. Although Dr. Sergent is the sole practitioner, he maintains close professional relationships with many local veterinary specialists, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Oncology and Neurology and specialists. We have a Board-Certified Veterinary Surgeon, Dr. Robert Botte DVM, who performs various orthopedic procedures (primarily surgeries of the knee joint, such as ACL repair) in our clinic while Dr Sergent and his staff provide anesthesia and other assistance during the surgery.

Within the clinic we have blood-chemistry, anesthetic, respiratory monitoring, pulse oximetry, X-ray, electrosurgical and various other diagnostic and treatment capabilities. With over 30 years experience, Dr. Sergent performs many types of diagnostic, treatment and surgical procedures on the premises, while utilizing his contacts within the various specialty fields for referrals of more difficult cases.

A few of the services we provide at our clinic include: Medical Diagnosis and Treatment, Wellness/Preventive Care, Vaccinations, Flea and Parasite Diagnosis and Control, Dental Cleaning and Extractions, Laboratory Diagnostics, very reasonably priced Spays and Neuters, Pain Management, In-house Pharmacy and diagnostic Radiology.

DOCTOR MICHAEL SERGENT , DVM, APC has been sole owner/ practitioner at El Norte Veterinary Clinic since March 2000. He is a  1979 graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California at Davis. He also earned a B.A.  in Zoology from U.C. Davis. Since earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, Dr. Sergent has owned, either singly or in partnership, four other veterinary practices ranging from Marin County, CA to Pine Valley in the San Diego mountains to Juneau, Alaska and Santa Fe, NM.

Dr. Sergent is a 2nd generation San Diego native. He graduated from Helix High School in La Mesa prior to serving 4 years in the United States Army Security Agency, where he studied at The Defense Language Institute in Monterey (Mandarin), then served a tour in Viet Nam as an interpretor and intelligence analyst. After the Army, he immediately entered Grossmont College before transferring  to U.C. Davis.

Dr Sergent's household consists of his lovely wife and daughter, plus their Australian Shepherd, 4 cats and a hermit crab. His primary hobbies are surfing, playing the guitar, fishing and camping.

    OUR STAFF consists of:

MELONY FOSTER, who has been with the clinic since near its beginning 20 years ago! You will find her primarily at the reception desk, but she does it all. "Mel" generally has a household full of Mastiffs to keep her busy.

CHRISSY MUELLER first joined us in 2002 and performs both reception and technical duties- sometimes both at once! Her job description often changes rapidly, depending on what comes through the front door. Chrissy is also a busy and dedicated wife and mother at home, in addition to having several dogs, many of which came from our clinic (a "hazard" of working in th veterinary field).

ERIKA BILEY is our newest addition on staff. Erika grew up in Germany, is fluent in German, and types faster then anyone I've ever seen! Should you call us or drop in in the afternoon hours, you will most likely be greeted by her friendly personality. Currently, Erika serves as receptionist, but she is a quick learner and shows interest in learning the more technical skills offered in the "back" of the clinic. Welcome, Erika!

Please call for an APPOINTMENT so that we may better serve everyone and you can avoid having to wait. Though we will generally take walk-ins, there are times the doctor is not available (surgery, etc.).

Please keep DOGS ON A LEASH and CATS IN CARRIERS for everyone's protection and safety.

All pets must be CURRENT  ON CORE VACCINATIONS unless otherwise excused for medical reasons. Please see for  more info.

Due to our small staff, no one is on the premises after-hours. As a result, we almost never keep animals overnight. We believe that animals that are serious enough to spend the night in our clinic are serious enough to require the constant professional monitoring and supervision provided by any of our local 24-hr referral clinics. Our surgeries are generally performed in the morning and released in the late afternoon.

Because of space limitations, we are unable to board or groom animals, however we we will gladly refer you to a reputable facility to fit your needs.

PAYMENT is due in full at time of pick-up. We do our utmost to provide you with an accurate estimate of costs for treatment prior to procedures being performed and we do our best to advise you of any unforeseen changes that may arise.

WE ACCEPT Cash,  Personal Checks with ID, VISA, MC and Cash/Debit cards.

    Located At: Escondido, CA

    We also offer:

Veterinary Clinics, Emergency Vet, Pet Hospital, Pet Clinic, Dog Vaccinations, Pet Surgery.
